Be prepared to learn about your origins!

------

The actual rulers, or directors, of a world ready for light and life are the Material Son and Daughter, the Planetary Adam and Eve. The finaliters are invisible, as also is the Prince-Sovereign except when in the Morontia temple. The actual and literal heads of the planetary regime are therefore the Material Sun and Daughter. It is the knowledge of these arrangements that has given prestige to the idea of kings and queens throughout the universe realms. Kings and queens are a great success under these ideal circumstances, when a world can command such high personalities to act in behalf of still higher but invisible rulers.

When such an era is attained on your world, no doubt Machivena Melchizedek, now the viceregent Planetary prince of Urantia, will occupy the seat of the Planetary Sovereign; and it has long been conjectured on the headquarter world that he will be accompanied by a son and daughter of the Urantia - Adam and Eve who are now held on Edentia as wards of the Most Highs of Norlatiadek. The children of Adam might also serve on Urantia in association with the Melchizedek-Sovereign since they were deprived of procreative powers almost 37,000 years ago at the time they gave up their material bodies on Urantia in preparation for transit to Edentia.

The Dogon tribe and Sirius

The Dogon are a West African tribe who have known about, and worshipped, Sirius A and its twin the invisible star Sirius B, for the past 5,000 years. They are have also been aware of the planets circle the sun in elliptical orbits, the four moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn.
They say that Sirius B is immensely heavy, invisible, very small, yet extremely powerful. Their understanding of the two stars' orbits coincides exactly with modern astronomical findings, yet was arrived at thousands of years before it was scientifically proven. They also claim that a third star Emme Ya - Sorghum Female - exists in the Sirius system. Larger and lighter than Sirius B, this star revolves around Sirius A as well.

The Dogon also believe that approximately 5,000 years ago, Amphibious Gods, called Nommo, came to Earth in three legged space ships from the Sirius Star System. They have described perfectly the DNA pattern made by this elliptical orbit created by the two stars as they rotate around each other. They believe Sirius to be the axis of the universe, and from it all matter and all souls are produced in a great spiral motion.

Robert K. G. Temple (born in the U.S. in 1945) is an American author best known for his controversial book, The Sirius Mystery (1976; though Temple began writing it in 1967) which presents the idea that the Dogon people preserve the tradition of contact with intelligent extraterrestrial beings from the Sirius star-system. His writings on the Dogon are based on an interpretation of the work of ethnographers, Marcel Griaule and Germaine Dieterlen.[1]
Temple attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where in 1965 he received a degree in Oriental Studies and Sanskrit. Originally conceived from a narrative from Jose Saramago's Baltasar and Blimunda, a painter, dramatist, and composer each present their own interpretation.

A large triptych comprises the visual aspect. Painter Julie Christensen draws on details from the narrative as well as the mood of the music to create her canvas. The dramatist Sheila Rocha likewise has the opportunity to draw upon the narrative and music as well as the reactions and atmosphere provided by the audience. The overall effect is a complete immesion in the expression of the original story.

Audience members hear the music, converse with the story, and see the art - all of which is being created before their eyes. During the performance, the audience is surrounded by the music; they are part of the telling, and they watch the painting unfold.

Rudolf Kamper's Baltasar and Blimunda are a series of pieces begun during the composer's stay in Mexico. All of the music in these pieces expanded from a few short cells of music which were sinpired by the characters and themes in Jose Saramago's novel.

I was really struck by your paintings of the reflections of the stained glass windows on the floor, and the monks. I am excited to add something like that to my music - to put more bright relexive sounds dancing on top of the dark and heavy structures which I've already got started. Some brittle flute sounds noodling around those big chords should be perfect for this. Also it creats a kind of theme of heavy stone structures (like the church) against these things which aren't really physical and which float around the (the colored light) dancing around the physical and corporeal (the world of men). As I think about it some this idea is again in the Halo on the saint's statue. A halo isn't really physical, it's just and aura, yet here it is physical enough for the mad monk to take away in punishment. Again, the difference between the heavy earth-bound and ethereal... Also mixing the tow by making a halo physcal and removable.

-email to the painter, by the composer.

click here for a slide presentation (.WMV)

recorded live performance at ARTSaha! 2005, with pictures of that performance.

returning to computer music

While convalescing, I decided to build a computer music studio. I made it up from parts:

Intel Pentium D Processor 820, LGA 775 2.8GHz
Abit AW8 motherboard
Presonus FirePod
Kurzweil SP88x Keyboard
MXL-900 Condenser Microphone
MXL-991 Condenser Microphone
2 Fostex monitor speakers
(plus of course memory, video card, disk drives, mic stands, headphones, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and books)

First I'd like to answer a few questions:

Yes, what I ended up with is better than a Dell. Plus, there is nothing sweeter than starting with a new computer with a clean slate. I don't need to spend time uninstalling all the junk that manufacturers usually load computers up with. I didn't have to worry about being asked a million times if I wanted to sign up for "free AOL," for example.

Yes, what I have in the long-run was cheaper than any package-deals, or custom-builds available.

No, it really wasn't that difficult. It does require patience and strict adherence to the following rules:

1. Make sure you have a computer that works with internet access. Don't try to cannibalize your existing computer to make the new one. You will run into questions and will need to consult Google to solve problems.
2. If you can, find a local, privately-owned store to buy most of your stuff. The big mail-order and internet-order places don't really have any customer service. Plus, if you end up getting the wrong part (which you will) you won't want to wait to send back the old part and and then wait for shipment of the new one. What you will want to do is drive over to the store and get the replacement right away.
3. Buy the music stuff (mics, stands, keyboard, speakers) used and get the computer parts new.

Listen here for my own "Switched on Hindemith." In order to learn the software I made this quick recording of one of the pieces from Ludus Tonalis. In honor of W. Carlos I tried to take few liberties, although I couldn't resist adding a little.

Film Score

Director Jeff Boddy has teamed up with ANALOG to put together his short film My Giant Robot. Originally conceived from a narrative from Jose Saramago’s Baltasar and Blimunda a painter, dramatist, and myself as composer each present our own interpretation.

A large triptych comprises the visual aspect. Painter Julie Christensen draws on details from the narrative as well as the mood of the music to create her canvas. The dramatist Sheila Rocha likewise has the opportunity to draw upon the narrative and music as well as the reactions and atmosphere provided by the audience as she shapes her enactment. The overall effect will be a complete immersion in the expression of the original story.

My Baltasar and Blimunda are a series of pieces begun during my stay in Mexico. All of the music in these pieces are expanded from a few short cells of music which were inspired by the characters and themes in Jose Saramago’s novel.

All of the Baltasar and Blimunda pieces are loosely connected by theme but each of the pieces do not necessarily join up to form a standard narrative. Each work is an episode which works autonomously or together as a whole.

Baltasar and Blimunda IV "In Lisbon..." will be performed as part of the ARTSaha! festival this summer.

ARTSaha! 2005

We have begun work on the second annual ARTSaha! festival. Impressed, the scientist Padre Bartolomeu exclaimed to Baltasar that he was Sete-Sois because he saw the work in the light of day, and Blimunda was Sete-Luas because she saw the work in the dead of night.

That night the suns and moons slept together in each others’ embraces while the stars circled slowly in the heavens.

Scarlatti Asked Padre Bartolomeu what was the secret which would make his machine fly. He asked if it was animal mineral, or vegetable. “It is neither Vegetable, mineral, or animal. Not everything is one of these things… take music for example.”

Scarlatti looked incredulous.

“I myself am transported into the air when I hear your music played.”

ARTSaha!

I am setting up a music and arts festival in the Omaha, Nebraska area with my wife Marcia and collegue Joseph Drew. Find out more!
